District Places Renewal Levy on May 8 Ballot

Dear West Muskingum Community,

West Muskingum Local Schools will have a renewal levy on the May 8, 2018 ballot to replace the current emergency levy, which will expire at the end of 2018. The renewal levy will continue to generate approximately $1.8 million annually for the school district over a period of the next ten years. Renewing the emergency levy will not increase taxes.

The impact of the state educational funding formula has not changed for West Muskingum, despite the inequity which has historically existed. Local funds are very important to our district, and we certainly appreciate our residents placing value in our schools.

The West Muskingum Board of Education made a conscious decision to put the renewal levy on the ballot along with reducing expenditures in order to maintain our current programming for students. The focus of the decision was to create no new taxes for our local taxpayers. Renewing the emergency levy will not increase taxes.

I welcome the opportunity to answer any questions our residents may have. Please email me at cshawger@laca.org or call the administration center at 740 455-4052.

Sincerely,
Chad Shawger
Superintendent
