*Every Student Succeeds Act - ESSA 

Federal law requires schools to release the names, addresses, and numbers of all high school students to military recruiters (Section 8025 of the Every Student Succeeds Act - ESSA).

Parents, please email Mrs. Sheck at if you would like to "OPT-OUT" of having your child's name and contact information on this list. Mrs. Sheck will be submitting the list to recruiters on September 16, 2020. 


Financial Aid Help Nights

The School Counseling Department will offer a Financial Aid Help Night in October 2020.

Applying to College

Mrs. Sheck posts daily updates in Google Classroom to update seniors on the next steps in the college application process. You can also set up a one-on-one appointment to get help with the application process at Scholarship Central by visiting

** If applying through the Common Application, please continue to request Mrs. Sheck as your Common Application Counselor Recommender. Even with Mrs. Sheck on maternity leave, it will be important to keep student requests in one place. Please use as the counselor recommender email. 


MidEast Presentation Day for Sophomores

Amy Sigman will be visiting West Muskingum High School to present information about attending MidEast on Friday, October 16, 2020.

*The Sophomore Showcase (sophomores visit MidEast) takes place in mid-November and December. More info will be announced during Amy Sigman's presentations.

Scholarship Central from the Muskingum County Community Foundation specializes in helping identify scholarships specific to each student! Set up a one-one-one appointment with Scholarship Central at or call them at 740.453.5192.

*This code must be entered when registering for the ACT so a copy of your scores will be sent to WMHS. Otherwise WMHS will not have access to submit test scores on your behalf. 


ACT Prep

Visit to sign up for the ACT prep classes at Scholarship Central (Muskingum County Community Foundation).

You must go to the website listed above to get the registration packet. A $20 deposit (cash or check), a signed Deposit Agreement form, and a completed Scholarship Central questionnaire are required to hold a spot in the class. Online payment and registration is not available.

The ASVAB will be offered to any senior who would like to take the test. Please be sure to notify Mrs. Sheck at if you are interested in taking the ASVAB in February 2021.
